Most Revd Wilfred Anagbe, CMF’s homily DELIVERED ON THE SOLEMNITY OF CHRIST THE KING

THEME: NO STATE- NO LEADER CAN REWRITE REALITY

The solemnity of our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe is a modern celebration. Pope Pius XI added it to the liturgical Calendar in 1925, inspired to contradict the growing statism of communist and fascist movement that would give the civil authority preeminence over all human affairs.
Eight decades ago, in Germany, Bishop Johannes Schmidt preached on the feast of Christ the King against the neo-pagan attempt of national socialists to replace the spiritual realm of the Church with a new social order based on racism, tribal and clannish interests. The Vatican Radio broadcast his “magnificent sermon”  to Germany and Germans, including his comment that no state has a right to rewrite reality.

JUST IN: Fulani herdsmen on the rampage again kills Church leader

Mr Hyacinth Kwaghemberga, a Church leader of St Francis Catholic Church, Tse Mom, has been shot dead in his house this afternoon, 11th August, 2023

Tse Mom is like a 3 - to 4-minute drive to Ortese, Sacred Heart's Parish Udei, Makurdi Diocese in Benue state.  This morning, our restive mothers had earlier protested and barricaded the main road because  of earlier killings yesterday by herdsmen.

This is coming barely less than 2 hours since our displaced mothers protested on the Mkd-Lafia Highway.

When shall this end?!

NIGERIAN CHRISTIANS ASK U.S. GOVERNMENT TO PUT THEIR COUNTRY ON RELIGIOUS FREEDOM WATCH LIST

Jan 31, 2024

National/World

Nigerian Christians are calling on the U.S. State Department to designate Nigeria as a "country of particular concern" in response to violence in that country perpetuated against predominantly Christian communities.

More than 100 people were killed and 300 injured in Nigeria's Plateau state Dec. 23-24, 2023, in what some news outlets attributed to clashes over land between farmers and herders amid ecological changes brought about by climate change. But Bishop Wilfred Chikpa Anagbe of the Diocese of Makurdi in Nigeria's Benue state told OSV News that the attacks are targeted against Christian communities.

"It is a jihad ? purely a religious war ? a genocide, the elimination of the Indigenous tribes who are mainly Christians," he said.

Bishop Anagbe, a Claretian missionary, said he finds it frustrating that the violence is sometimes attributed in Western media to climate change an

ADDRESS OF BISHOP WILFRED CHIKPA ANAGBE

TO THE NATIONAL CATHOLIC PRAYER BREAKFAST

FEBRUARY 8, 2024

Good Morning and thank you for allowing me this opportunity to bear witness to the dire situation of persecution that your brothers and sisters in Nigeria are enduring daily.

We have been looking for ways to bring this to the attention of the international community and I am grateful to start with our own Church.  Thank you for inviting me and thanks to Aid to the Church in Need for making this possible.

I am from the Makurdi diocese of Benue state in the Middle Belt region of Nigeria. The violent persecution and numerous massacres in my diocese have increased exponentially since I was appointed as Bishop and continue to do so.

In Benue, we have 6 million inhabitants 99% of which are Christian, 80% of them are Catholic. They are mainly farmers livi
